Budget Preparation and Negotiation

One of the goals of this office is to support UConn Health Center researchers by working collaboratively with them to create viable study budgets that allow researchers to realistically assess the cost of doing clinical trials. This new business plan for clinical trials will speed the process of budget negotiation, improve both PI and institutional compliance with state and federal regulations and provide a system to identify problems and monitor the process.

The OCTR staff will work with the study team to:

• Identify whether the study qualifies for Medicare reimbursement.
• Delineate protocol induced costs (PIC) and routine care costs (RC).
• Outline the process for fiscal management throughout the life of the study.
• Prepare budgets for all clinical research involving human subjects using the budget workbook.
• Negotiate pharmaceutical/industry contracts.
